Meditation

Meditation - (Definition below this article) Meditation - (Definition below this article) There are many techniques for meditation. What most people fail to realize is that they meditate everyday and are not aware that is what they are doing. For some meditation seems to be a state of total relaxation and no thought; for others it is focusing on a word or a picture that has meaning for them; for some it is gentle music and for others it is guided by another person via recording of some type or in a group.

Thoughts are directly connected to meditation in a way. The more we think about something the more our energy and creativity is either used or ignored. Most of us are really not consciously aware of our thoughts and much of what we do is automatic physical actions, e.g. driving a car, folding clothes, doing a job, etc. once we have the task kind of mastered our thoughts wander. If we would consciously be more aware of what and how we think we can change what we are attracting and creating in our lives.

The purpose of meditation is usually to slow our brain down and quiet the dialogue that is going on in there. I will be having guest speakers that teach meditation techniques and hopefully you will find what works for you. It could be fishing, or house cleaning, or sitting in a quiet place, lying down, going for a walk or taking in what nature has to offer. Practicing paying attention to where you are and what you are sensing at the moment is a very important part of getting in touch with the higher part of you.

One technique I use is lying down; I have a portable CD Player and a good quality headset, and I choose a meditation CD that I feel I need for that particular meditation; some of my meditations are guided and some are just nice gentle music. I normally meditate in my bedroom; I don't have any phones turned on in there and I know I won't be interrupted. I use a lightweight throw cover to put over me, our body temperature drops when we go into deeper meditation states, I don't wear shoes and I usually allow at least 30 minutes for the experience. I also have had good experiences with group meditation sessions.

Each of you needs to find a technique or techniques that will work best for you. You may be more comfortable sitting in a comfortable chair with your feet on the ground, or you may choose a yoga position, or you may want to go for a walk.

Have a pleasant journey!
